Lazy Journalism Fails

Mainly yahoo. FAIL: OP ED piece disguised as journalism-where's the credibility? (yahoo.com)
Yahoo has been lousy about their news service in the recent years. Many of the articles are randomly posted as 'Top Stories' when they're simply an op-ed piece or opinion. It's not an unbiased article by any means. Yahoo is just regurgitating news. -
Los Angeles Times FAIL: Truth vs. narrative (latimes.com)
LA Times is not using this 'poll' responsibly. The reporting on 'polls' and 'poll numbers' really needs to be looked into. I feel the media has been running a narrative as of late, partly due to a vocal minority of readers. -
USA Today FAIL: USA Today, Gallup Can't Read Their Own Social Security Poll (ourfuture.org)
A new USA Today poll finds most Americans don't support broad cuts in Social Security, either by raising the retirement age or the payroll tax. Yet the headline reads "Poll: Faith in Social Security system tanking." -
Star Tribune FAIL: Star Tribune lets Pawlenty claim that most felons are Democrats (startribune.com)
Star Tribune front-page story doesn't question or put into context governor Pawlenty's claim that most felons are Democrats. Instead, they let the governor's quote stand as fact and allow a press release to be front-page news. -
The New York Times FAIL: Waterboarding: Not Torture Because The Bush Administration Says So (huffingtonpost.com)
For those of us who thought this was accidental ... Jason Linkins on Huffington Post shows the paper trail of how objective, accepted truth becomes "one side" of an opinion in the MSM outlet of record. -
Lara Logan FAIL: Establishment Reporters Loathe Success of Real Muckraker (salon.com)
With his Rolling Stones exclusive, Michael Hastings has become the personification of “Real Journalism,” reports Glenn Greenwald. As a result, he has provoked intense animosity from establishment-serving "reporters" like Lara Logan of CBS News. -
ABC, NBC FAIL: ABC and NBC Are Paying for High-Profile News Interviews (nypost.com)
ABC and NBC are paying six figures this week for high-profile interviews, according to knowledgeable sources -- despite policies that usually forbid it. -
The Huffington Post FAIL: Huffington Post to readers: Monsanto Wins & Loses Supreme Court in One Day (huffingtonpost.com)
Within a 6 hour time frame The Huffington Post tells us that Monsanto both won and lost their case at the Supreme Court. Check it out: http://huff.to/bqG8ei and http://huff.to/afhyeA -
NineMSN Today FAIL: Footwear fears: Pregnant women warned oevr shoes (live.com)
For the main article on the Hotmail home page, Microsoft neglects the spelling on the headline. “Pregnant women warned oevr shoes” this comes as a shock due to Microsoft launching a new aggressive advertisement campaign. -
The New York Times FAIL: NYT Portrays BP Fund as "Takeover" & Mimics Repub Talking Points in "Analysis" (nytimes.com)
Just hours after Joe Barton's laughable assault on Obama's successful bid to get BP to set aside 20 Billion for the Gulf, NY Times picks up the meme that this somehow could be dangerous for his presidency and worries about "government overreach." -
Morning Edition Steve Inskeep FAIL: NPR accepts Gibb's assertion that Obama administration can seize BP assets (npr.org)
Inskeep interviews Gibbs and asks if the President has legal authority to seize BP assets to fund $20 billion spill-related payments. He FAILS to press Gibbs on the exact legal precedent that would allow such a seizure before any court proceeding. -
CNN FAIL: CNN Can't Imagine White House Motives for 'Beach Party' (salon.com)
Ed Henry thinks Rahm Emanuel and Joe Biden and the other White House officials just decided they wanted an opportunity to get to know Ed and Wolf and the other members of the media just a little bit better as people. That must be it. -
New York Times FAIL: NYT reports decades-old Afghanistan mineral discovery story as new (wired.com)
NYT and other media outlets report trillion dollar mineral deposits "discovered" in Afghanistan in obvious attempt to extinguish fears about a lack of progress in the region. -
White House Press Corps FAIL: Jon Stewart to Reporters: 'Are You Journalists Or Are You Rushing A Sorority?!' (talkingpointsmemo.com)
Jon Stewart is not impressed with journalists who attended a barbecue hosted by Vice President Joe Biden. "It's fun to see politicians and the people we count on to hold them accountable Super-Soaking each other..." -
Jake Tapper FAIL: More Lazy Journalism as ABC Reporter Prefers ‘Sparks’ to Facts (abcnews.com)
ABC White House correspondent Jake Tapper would rather report on the “sparks” that flew between Liz Cheney and Arianna Huffington during “This Week.” I guess it was too much work to advance the story by checking the facts to tell us who was right.
